WWE chairman promotes `Raw' with $1M giveaway

LOS ANGELES —

Wrestling fans eager to get their hands on Vince McMahon's money will have to jump through a few hoops first.

The World Wrestling Entertainment chairman announced during last week's "Monday Night Raw" that he would give away $1 million of his own wealth to viewers, but he didn't specify when or how it would be distributed.

The cash will be given away as part of a lengthy promotional sweepstakes, McMahon and the WWE told The Associated Press.

For a chance to win a part - but not all - of the $1 million, viewers must pre-register on WWE.com and then watch the beginning of "Raw" each week to receive a special code, which viewers must tell McMahon if he calls them during the live broadcast.

The code will change each week of the promotion and will not be revealed until the beginning of each episode.

"People can view this as my own version of an economic stimulus plan to benefit our viewers," McMahon told The Associated Press.

While the USA Network series continues to be one of the most watched shows on cable TV, its ratings have recently declined. Last Monday's episode received the lowest ratings in five years, according to Nielsen Media Research.

McMahon said his goal with the giveaway, which begins June 9, is to reward loyal "Raw" fans and draw new and former viewers back to the show.

Spears undergoing psychiatric evaluation

Britney Spears is on a psychiatric hold in a Los Angeles hospital as she undergoes evaluation.
The 26-year-old was taken from her home to hospital yesterday by ambulance.
Speaking to People magazine, Spears' representative, Sam Lutfi, said that Spears was undergoing evaluation on the orders of her psychiatrist.
"She went willingly," Lufti told the magazine. "It was like something in her heart was telling her she should go. She knew something was wrong."
UCLA Medical Center declined to confirm if Spears was a patient, citing confidentiality.
Spears' parents and Lufti were pictured leaving the hospital on Thursday. When asked if her daughter was "OK" by reporters, the singer's mother Lynne said: "Yes."
Friends and family have said they believe that the 26-year-old is suffering from bipolar disorder or other psychiatric problems.
An unnamed source told Us Weekly that Spears had not slept since Saturday.
The source said that the "intervention" by Spears' family and psychiatrist had been planned for a number of days.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness in the US has pleaded for Spears' privacy during her treatment.

Detroit, MI's Walls of Jericho weren't simply notable because they were a metalcore band with a uproarious female on vocals. They ar also worth remembering because they adeptly balanced old school hard-core, thrash metal, and "chugga-chugga" metalcore with a furiousness and dedication nonpareil by many of their coevals. Containing onetime members of the band Earth Mover, Walls of Jericho came together in September of 1998 around Candace Kucsulain (vocals), Wes Keely (drums), Chris Rawson (guitar), Aaron Ruby (bass part), and Mike Hasty (guitar). They began playing shows shortly after, supporting more established bands throughout the Midwest, care Buried Alive, Hatebreed, Racetraitor, Brother's Keeper, and Reach the Sky. Less than a year afterward, in April of 1999, the band issued a 7" EP through Underestimated, which was followed shortly thenceforth by a CD EP containing that 7" and demo tracks, called A Day and a Thousand Years, which was released by European imprint Genet.

A buzz eventually encircled Walls of Jericho in the international hardcore shot as they continued to play shows in bread and butter of their EP releases, attracting the attention of both Ferret and Trustkill Records. They sign a portion out with the latter, which resulted in the December 1999 spillage of their debut uncut record album, The Bound Feed the Gagged. The band impinge on the touring and hardcore festival racing circuit the following yr. In August of 2000 they toured the United States in support of Syracuse, NY, straight-edgers Earth Crisis, melodic Swedish death metal band In Flames, and Oakland, CA's metallic Skinlab. After some other batch of touring in 2001, Walls of Jericho lost their drummer to a larger, more than established band. Frustrated by their attempts to supercede him, they decided to call in it a day; Kucsulain went on to be a organic structure piercer's apprentice, patch the rest of the band formed It's All Gone to Hell.

But 2 age later, Walls of Jericho got back together, reemerging with a new drummer (Alexi Rodriquez, erst of Catharsis) on board and a newfound dOE to create music in concert. Their next record album, All Hail the Dead, appeared in early 2004 through Trustkill, and (as in the past times) the band hit the route hard in bread and butter. Rodriguez all of a sudden exited the grouping that December, but finding a alternate this time about was much easier, as the dance orchestra looked no farther than age acquaintance and ex-Premonitions of War drummer Dustin Schoenhofer, wHO united in early 2005. A drawing string of shows with Bullet for My Valentine was played in springtime 2006, in addition to a Canadian run with All That Remains and Unearth, in front the band hit up the second degree of the summer's Ozzfest. Recorded in Cleveland with producer Ben Schigel (Zao, Chimaira), their third full-length, With Devils Amongst Us All, was issued that summer as advantageously.
